This is a tough one.  From my local community to book club meetings, I hear people talking about wanting peace, wanting things to be better.  Then in the next breath they want to put someone “in their place.”

Peace.  It has to be more than a buzz word.  And it has to be for everyone in every place.

I can’t claim to have written this one but if you aren’t familiar with it, I hope that you will come to love the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi as much as I do.  It is the perfect antidote for a me-centric day.

The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.
