I have to admit, I’ve tried again and again to write a meaningful post about what is happening in the US this week. What is there to say other than the obvious?
We fear change.
People are flawed.
We can be counted on to make bad decisions. Not hourly, God willing, but every now and again we do something astonishingly clueless. This week we’ve seen it all and so many people have commented. Some of the comments have been half-baked. Some have been racist. Others have been just plain . . . what?
And it is oh so tempting to step into it all on social media. I am, after all, a nonfiction writer. I so badly wanted to correct facts. There is a reason one of my friends calls me the Credible Hulk. I always come in with the data, but I’m also sharp-tongued.
Sometimes it is best if I just don’t act. It is better to simply be.
Maybe that’s why we are called human BE-ings. We really do best when we spend a certain amount of time with God in prayerful contemplation. Even if we don’t know what to say, we can spend time simply BE-ing in God’s presence. Basking. Breathing deep.
Eventually, when we are calmer and recharged, we can step back out into the world. And even then? Sometimes it is best to simply BE or, instead of arguing, to go out into the world, carrying His Light, His Love, and His Spirit of Change.

I love your positivity. I am so torn. I feel so angry and sad. I just want to blame and shame as opposed to working through my emotions to make sense of the actions of these people. I don’t believe their destruction and cruelty deserve understanding, but I hear what you are saying. It makes sense. I think it will just take time.

This wasn’t something I came to either quickly or lightly. Fortunately, my 21 year-old son has a mind of his own and is willing to give me a nudge when I need it. And boy did I need it!

Thank you, SueBE. I was about to go off half-cocked in a post about recent events, but you’re right. It won’t add anything to the conversation. If anything it will only fuel the fire on both sides. Cooler heads need to prevail.

Miss Ruth,
How about we take turns? I had the cool head last week. This week you can do it. Next week, we’ll hand that job off to Lori. Because I do NOT manage to do it all the time.

You’ve got a deal, SueBE! I know Lori will be all in with us, too. The way things are going, we’ll need to dig deep to keep calm and carry on.

I think the events of the last few months have all been incredibly difficult to all in the U.S.A. But I believe that the Lord will go forward with all who love Him and seek after Him. He will not leave you without counsel but from my own experience counsel comes quietness and trust and His is a still, small voice but He speaks and from our places of quietness and trust He entrusts us with the counsel and word to declare from the rooftops. Many blessing Sube and to all my American friends …

So true! I know that I have to make a point of being quiet and listening. It is all too easy to tell everyone what I think instead of trying to hear that still small voice. Thank you for your encouraging words!
