I may appear driven and outspoken,
like the Persistent Widow,
but, unlike the Widow,
I am not driven by Faith and Hope.

I am driven by my fears –
fears of the evil that swirls around me,
fears of the harm that we do to each other,
fears of what tomorrow may bring.

Please, give me the strength
to shift my gaze to You.
Let me be still and refresh myself
so that, when I speak out,
it is Your voice that people hear
and not the wailing of my own fears.
